is the initiative through which we set out to simplify the procedure for creating mural paintings in the Municipality of Iași and to include this procedure in the Aesthetic Guide of Iași.

As part of this initiative, we aimed to develop a simplified process for obtaining authorization for mural painting and to include this procedure in the Urban Architecture and Aesthetic Guide of the Municipality of Iași.

Another component of the initiative focused on completing the first mural painting following this simplified procedure.

We started out very enthusiastically, thinking we would implement a procedural change that would make Iași a very welcoming place for mural painting initiatives.

At first, it seemed simple, but as we moved forward with implementation, we adapted and developed the initial idea. The results exceeded expectations—even though the process turned out to be more complicated and things didn’t go exactly as planned.

Through this program, we grew as an organization, with support from our colleagues at Civica and from the community, which trusted and supported our initiative.

Activities and Results

  • A draft of a simplified procedure for obtaining authorization for mural paintings
  • A meeting with the Mayor of Iași to present the need for a simplified procedure for murals and an Urban Architecture and Aesthetic Regulation for the city
  • A public consultation – to identify graphic elements to be integrated into the mural (54 questionnaire respondents)
  • A collaborative artwork on the theme of civic engagement and democracy on the wall at Piața Sudului (with the involvement of 9 volunteers)
  • An inauguration event for the mural painting, with participation from volunteers and the community (20 participants)
  • Unlocking the process for developing the Urban Architecture and Aesthetic Regulation of Iași
  • Inclusion of the simplified procedure for mural painting in the Urban Architecture and Aesthetic Regulation of Iași
